Making your own homemade yogurt is amazingly easy and it is very good. There is no reason to buy any special equipment, as you probably have what you need. Making homemade yogurt on your own, allows you to control what is in it and it is less expensive than store bought.

Basic recipe for homemade yogurt

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of whole milk
  • 0,25 liter of thick yogurt with live and active cultures

Preparation:

Cook the milk, so it’s temperature will be over 74 0C (166 0F), but it doesn’t have to boil. Cool the milk to somewhere between 38 – 42 0C (101 – 108 0F). That is when you do not burn if you dip your finger in it. Into the warm milk stir the yogurt and mix with spoon. Split the mixture into cups in and place them into pre-heated oven to 50 degrees. Turn off the oven and after about 12 hours or overnight, your homemade yoghurt is ready.

Store your homemade yogurt in the refrigerator, and  it will wait up to 10 days. For those who want a sweet or fruity version of homemade yogurt, just add what you like: fresh fruit, cinnamon, honey, fruit purées, flakes,…
